Laser Hair Removal

What is laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses a concentrated beam of light to remove unwanted hair. During laser hair removal, a laser emits a light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair. The energy of light is converted into heat, which destroys the hair follicles that produce the hairs. This inhibits or retards future hair growth.

Frequently asked questions

Is Laser Hair Removal Safe?

CANDELA GENTLEMAX is the most innovative and effective laser permanent hair removal equipment. It has an important advantage: its low tendency to hypopigmentation makes it suitable for treating all skin types, including dark and tanned skin.

It causes the destruction of the hair bulb by heat transfer to the pigment (melanin) that contains the follicle without damaging the skin.

It does not use gel due to its dynamic cooling system, which at the time of firing the laser pulverizes the area to be treated with cold air. Not all patients can have the same results, as they depend on several factors, including hair color and the stage in which the hair follicle is found.

Is Laser Hair Removal painful?
The laser hair removal with Candela Gentle Pro is quite comfortable because the system has a cooling spray released at the same time as the laser shots, this cooling is called Cryogen. If you have ever had waxing, it is much less painful than waxing and it is also a faster treatment.
Do you guarantee laser hair removal results?

The results of laser hair removal treatment vary in each person. Many factors affect these results, such as skin type, hair color, hormones, genetic conditions, pain sensitivity, etc.

How often are Laser Hair Removal sessions done?

Laser sessions are done on the face every 4 weeks and on the body every 6 to 8 weeks. If a patient is treating face and body, the sessions may be scheduled every 5 weeks. This is because in the face the hair grows faster than the body, so the sessions can be schedule earlier in this area.

It is important to know, that the hair of the area to be treated will naturally be in different stages of growth, some longer, some shorter, some about to fall and even some will be at the beginning of the growth cycle.

Can I do Laser Hair Removal if I am pregnant?

You can not get laser if you are pregnant. The main reason not to do it is there are not safety studies. The International Journal of Women’s Dermatology published a review in 2017 on the safety of cosmetic procedures for pregnant women.

The reviewers said that while lasers have been safely used to treat medical conditions like kidney stones and genital warts in pregnant women, there’s no safety data available to support using lasers for cosmetic procedures like laser hair removal.

The lack of research on this subject probably won’t change soon, because scientists don’t want to risk harming mothers and babies by intentionally exposing them to potentially harmful products and procedures. In the absence of research, doctors are on the side of caution.

Can I do Laser Hair Removal if I am sun tanned?

After exposing yourself to the direct sun and getting tanned you must wait at least 2 weeks to get the laser hair removal treatment. If after 2 weeks, your tan remains very intense, it will depend on our Specialists view. Some times we can still perform the treatment, but we may have to lower the settings of the laser, which is not convenient in terms of the results of the treatment.

Therefore, we recommend you to postpone your appointment if you are still very tanned after the two weeks period.

Will it works on my thick and dark hair?

The best results are seen in patients with dark and thick hair. The reason is the laser light goes directly into the pigment (hair melanin) and faster results are obtained.

Will it works if I have hormonal problems?

People who have an excess of hair due to hormonal causes, can alleviate this problem with laser hair removal. Especially when the skin is light and the hair is dark, something that usually happens when it comes to hormonal hair. So this type of hair removal, can be a good option to finally end the problem. However, in the case of hormonal disorders, at Vellisimo we recommend combining laser hair removal with medical treatments aimed at achieving the lost hormonal balance again.

Does it help to treat hair folliculitis or Bearbumps?

Folliculitis is an inflammation of the hair follicles that are spread throughout the body and cause pain.

Laser hair removal acts on one of the bases of the problem that is hair growth.

When performing the treatment with our Candela Gentle Pro laser, pulses are made on the skin that will penetrate to the follicle producing a temperature high enough to produce thermal damage to it and prevent the hair that depends on this follicle from continuing to grow.

Therefore, laser hair removal is recommended by dermatologists as one of the first lines of action for the treatment of folliculitis.

One of the methods to improve folliculitis during laser hair removal treatment is through exfoliation. It is recommended to exfoliate your skin one week after your laser session but always stop doing it a week before your session to prevent the skin from being sensitive for your laser session.
